The ELA Foundation

Established in 2004, the ELA Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization that promotes advancement in science through research programs and educational projects.

The mission of the ELA Foundation is to assure the development of methods to control and someday cure myelin disorders and to improve the quality of life for those afflicted with these types of illnesses.

To attain these ambitious objectives, the ELA Foundation benefits from a first provision of 20M€ and the support of number of personalities in the world of economy, sport, media and music.

The objectives of ELA FOUNDATION

The ELA Foundation will facilitate the advancement of myelin disorders research by:

1) Funding international scientific research programs and clinical trials in the following fields:

  • Genetic leukodystrophies;
  • Acquired myelin disorders, most notably cerebral white matter injury of the premature infants and multiple sclerosis in adults;
  • Myelin repair for the diseases mentioned above as well as spinal cord injuries;
  • Multifactorial genetic factors modulating the expression of acquired and hereditary myelin disorders.

2) Encouraging increased involvement of:

  • Scientists by providing grants to public laboratories, encouraging public/private partnerships, and establishing sound collaborative practices between research teams in the field in order to effectively share information and improve overall knowledge surrounding specific scientific investigations. Grants include new investigators and clinical researchers, research and clinical fellowships and student trainee programs, among others;
  • Patients and their family by promoting the most current information concerning myelin disorders, treatment options, research, clinical trials and public policy;
  • General public by broadly promoting awareness of the scientific findings on myelin disorders which will allow for a better understanding of the research stakes.
